Once you look closely, this will be the piece that you'll buy.

Probably one of the most impressive pieces I have seen. Who ever did the polishing job on this, well, he knew his business. Artistic with a flair that is hard to describe. One solid piece that measures about 6 x 6 x 6 (this is difficult to give an accurate measurement because of the shape.) It weighs a whopping 953 grams - almost a kilogram (which is about 2 pounds 2 ounces.) Now please understand that those measurements are just an estimate because this is really a 'free form' piece of copal. There are many termites in this piece, which are easy to see.

This is the perfect piece to put on your desk. It has a flat bottom and will draw the admiring ooohs and aaahs every time someone sees it. It is a center piece. It is all anyone needs.

Enjoy all the other pictures. It is unfortunate that only one person will own this masterpiece.

How old is Colombian Copal? The age of Colombian (South America) copal still remains an open question. In fact in some papers you can find uncertain "Tertiary" age (see for example the table in Langenheim's review, American Scientist, 78:16-24, 1990), or in other papers also Pliocene-Pleistocene; accurate determinations made by means of 14C revealed that Colombian copal from the region of Santander is in the order of just 200 years old (Clifford et al., Org. Geochemistry, 27:449-464, 1997), practically recent resin. There are others who feel that certain Colombian copals are in the terms of many millions of years.

Most of the Colombian copal that is offered for sale is from the Andes Mountains in South Amberica. It could be up to 16 million years old. Since I have not had it tested for time, I cannot conclusively say the age. If there is something in particular that you are looking for but cannot find it on this page, let us know, we probably have it!

Postage for amber will usually cost $4.80 (USD) per order, anywhere in the world. There may be exceptions to this. We will get your sample to you as soon as possible (usually mailed the same day or at worst, the next day). U.S. orders go out by Priority Mail, overseas as Air Mail. Books are normally mailed "Media Mail", unless they are light, in which case they are mailed first class. Overseas books are air mail unless the weight is prohibitive, in which case you will have the option of surface (ship) or paying a bit extra for air mail. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
