Here are three pieces of fake amber purchased by a friend living in Texas. Orlando Vasquez purchased two of the specimens in China. It appears as through each of the specimens contains a fly. In particular, the middle, clear piece shows the "mold" effect. Whoever made the 'amber' used a plastic ice tray to put the clear resin in. The clearity and actual preservation of the fly are particulairly nice. A close up of the "ice cube tray" fake is here at the right. The "ice cube tray" fake was purchased at a local novelty shop. It is included here because of the similarity it has with the Chinese fakes. The two Chinese fake pieces of amber were reported to be very inexpensive. Orlando also mentions a special specimen he saw when he purchased the 2 Chinese fakes....a fossil fish in amber! He goes on to say "the fake specimen with the fish looked very similar to the clear one. Imagine an uninformed person stumbling across a large fish in what appears to be amber. The market salesperson even holds a lighter to the specimen and a piney smell is given off."

This is a piece that has color closer to the regular color of amber. It is a bit hazy inside, giving the alusion of being real. The maker drilled holes near one side of the specimen to attach a red cloth neclace. This also has a fly inside.

You can just see the fly in the hazy colored piece of 'amber'. The shape is very close to what you would except, the string through one end is just right, the color, while a little vibrant, is pretty good. This is probably his best immitation.
