I know most folks will find this page unbelievable. Here we offer, for sale, Kauri Gum. Yes, it is the famous Kauri gum from the New Zealand gum diggers!

Kauri gum is from a tree in the family Araucariaceae, genus Agathis. This is a small family of trees found in the northern part of New Zealand (Agathis australis) and Queensland (Agathis palmerstonii and Agathis robusta). It has been found also in Indonesia.

Most of the recent Kauri gum is 10,000 to 40,000 years old. The fossil gum has been dated from coal seams to be 43 million years old. The Kauri gum (copal) that is offered for sale is not fossil gum, but only 30 or 40,000 years old. As you probably know, Kauri gum is almost impossible to find, and even harder to find for sale! You have no idea what big is till you see this one! This giant weighs 2,117 grams (that is 4.8 pounds.) While certainly not the largest piece of Kauri gum ever found, this ranks as one piece that is 'really big'. Certainly big enough to lift anyone's eyebrows. This is a extremely rare to find. It is even rarer to find for sale! But here it is.

As you can see, this is quite a handful!

This is a close up so you can see the color of the Kauri Gum. Needless to say, this is not polished.

This is the back of the gum. Rather on the 'flat side' and covered with a very thin film of whitish material. You can start to see some of the color of the gum on the bottom left of this image.
