This is the famous Kauri gum from the New Zealand gum diggers!

Kauri gum is from a tree in the family Araucariaceae, genus Agathis. This is a small family of trees found in the northern part of New Zealand (Agathis australis) and Queensland (Agathis palmerstonii and Agathis robusta). It has been found also in Indonesia.

Most of the recent Kauri gum is 10,000 to 40,000 years old. The fossil gum has been dated from coal seams to be 43 million years old. The Kauri gum (copal) that is offered for sale is not fossil gum, but only 30 or 40,000 years old. As you probably know, Kauri gum is almost impossible to find, and even harder to find for sale! This giant is 634 grams (that is well over a pound) It is very clear inside and you can almost see through it. Notice in the pictures that you can see my fingers on the other side. This has a good yellow color. It is sure to draw the questions from anyone who sees it.

Postage for amber will usually cost $5.35 (USD Priority Mail in the USA) or 1st class mail anywhere in the world. There may be exceptions to this. We will get your sample to you as soon as possible (usually mailed the same day or at worst, the next day). U.S. orders go out by Priority Mail, overseas as Air Mail. Books are normally mailed "Media Mail", unless they are light, in which case they are mailed first class. Overseas books are air mail unless the weight is prohibitive, in which case you will have the option of surface (ship) or paying a bit extra for air mail. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
