30.
At first glance, you don't see a lot, but a second glance brings
up a new world. There is a ant head, Hymenoptera, Formicidae, along
with that there are some
gnats, Di ptera, Mycetophilidae, a leaf
scale, a beetle
larvae, and a true
midge, Diptera, Chironomidae and a termite (abdomen is sliced off) and even
a tube (unknown tube).

This has a large caddis fly, Trichoptera and good sized flat footed ambrosia beetle, Coleoptera, Platypodidae. This nice piece has a cab shape. Interesting detail on the caddis fly.

A Nice shape to this clear piece of Dominican amber. There is a
curled worker termite, a springtail, Collembola and what look like 2 dance flies, Diptera, Empididae. Good shape for a pendant.

#33. Millipede - Diplopoda: Polydesmida, this is a small piece of amber with a VERY nice millipede. In fact it is one of the nicest.

While some
wasps are tough to ID, so are not, this is an
ensign wasp, Hymenoptera, Evaniidae - the constriction at the abdomen is a dead
giveaway. The larvae of the ensign
wasp are parasitic in egg capsules of roaches. The adults
are likely to appear in places where cockroaches appear.

If you can only have one piece of amber and money is not the biggest
concern in your life - this is it. A wonderful piece that is lar ge and clear. This magnificent
piece has a very large male
winged termite, Isoptera, Mastotermes electrodominicus - a bit larger than 1 inch (that is large.) This is one heck of
a piece - the type you can pick up and show
someone (without a microscope.) Look at it this way, the only
way to get a good picture is with the scanner because the termite
is so large.

#36 A beautiful shaped piece of amber perfect for a pendant. This clear piece contains a single earwig, Dermaptera. The earwig is difficult to photograph because of the angle. It
is a great price for a very good piece. Earwigs are rare in Dominican
amber.

The amber is only fair and the isopod it difficult
to see.

Here is one you will immediately fall in love with. This is the perfect piece with a perfect shape- you could easily make this into a pendant. It has a very large and very unusual female worker ant curled near the middle. It has class, that is all I can say.

I do not know for sure what the large
animal is for sure, but I think it is a psyllid, Homoptera,
Psyllidae. On the other
side of the small piece of amber are some
ant parts (fight?). The amber has glazing on the surface.

Thick piece of amber with a dark cognac color. This has a flat
bark beetle, Coleoptera, Cucujidae, a
spider and some other
unidentified animals. There is what looks like part of a root
system (it is not a root).

41. Unusual piece, there is a lot of organic debris
that clouds the view. But you can see a caddis
fly, Triphoptera, a fungus
gnat, Diptera Mycetophilidae and some very
strange bubbles.

#43. This is a special piece. Not only does it have a beautiful
and large click
beetle, Coleoptera, Elateroidea.
The amber is large
and very clear with perfect
color. Finally this has a very unusual set of animals. There
is a pair of black
scavenger flies mating, Diptera, Scatoposidae.
They have been entombed
in this position for the past 24
million years - that is a long time to be copulating.
It is very
unusual to find a pair of mating
flies in amber. You will probably never see another for sale.
And certainly never see such a pair in such a beautiful piece
of amber. This is large enough and pretty enough to be made into
a pendant.

Here is a
psyllid. Now I admit that they are not rare in amber, but
this is a good one. Even more so, the antennae are rather
long on this animal - enough that I think it may be a new
species (although I do not consider myself an expert in Homoptera.)
If it is - I want the name!

A second look is required here. I think this is a ptilodactlid beetle, Coleoptera, Ptylodactylidae. The piece is very busy with num erous air bubbles and another beetle, flat footed ambrosia beetle, Coleoptera, Platypodidae. the amber is large and very interesting.

An adult planthopper, Order Homoptera, Super Family Fulgoroidea.
This is a very large piece that has just a beautiful adult planthopper! Detail on this guy is unbelievable.
The amber is a beautiful clear yellow and the planthopper is large.
There are numerous other Dipterans, midge, fly, thrip and even one half of a mosquito!
This is a collectors piece.

This one will be fun just to describe. Heavy and large, about 40 grams and 2.5 x 2 x 1 inch in size. It is only partially polished which makes it even cooler. There are a number of worker termites here, call with decomposition bubbles coming from their bodies. In fact the bubbles are some of the largest I've seen. This is a very dramatic demonstration of body gassing, This is just a cool piece, you do not see them like this very often. More like the type that you put on your desk and people pick it up and ask what the story is about.

#51. This has an isopod next to a very nice fly, Diptera, Brachycera.
There is some surface glazing on this piece, otherwise the price would be double.

an isopod - a very nice

Nice sized piece of amber that has a set
of termite wings and the partial remains of a
millipede, Polyxenida.
There is also a beetle, Coleoptera, Scydmaenidae (I think).
