#55 What a beautiful example of a single worker termite, Isoptera floating in a sea of yellow fossilized resin. 24 million years ago this termite was chomp'in wood, now it is there for us to admire.

This is a tough animal to see because of the debris or air bubbles
inside. It looks like a very special wasp, the elongation between
the head and the abdomen is very long. Someone will really enjoy
this one.

A lovely piece of very clear piece of amber that contains 4 or 5 worker

a bite out of each one.

A face only a mother could love..............this ancient female worker ant was probably a leaf cutter ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae. She is curled near the center, impressive. There is also a wasp, Hymenoptera off to the side of the ant. You could make this into a pendant and still see the ant.
The ant is interesting, mottled areas of darkness (probably carbon films) and you can see where they have pulled away, rather like drying on mud flats.

#63 Amber will drip from trees in a stalactite fashion. Here is
one big section of an amber stalactite. Beautifully clear inside
and rough on the outside. You do not see them like this very often.
This will be a crown in someone's collection.

This is it. One of special pieces that does not come along very
often. This has an unknown
Hemipteran (true bug) - I really do not know what it is (if
you know, let me also!). But biggest of all is the square
headed ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae,
Genus Cephalotes.
These ants guard the nests with their heads, allowing only the
'proper' ants in to the colony, probably looking for particular
pheromones. This is on of the finest in the collection. You will
be amazed
at the detail of the head and body.

This is a very large piece of amber with 5
click beetles, Coleoptera, Elateridae
and one unknown beetle. If you are into beetles,
this is a great one to cap off any collection! This will be one
of those 'I've got to have it' pieces. There is even an
unknown beetle in this grouping.

Reasonably good size piece of amber with a lot inside. There are legs from a crane fly scattered all throughout the piece. The legless crane fly body is there also. At one end is part of a plant - don't know which part though. Many 24 million year old air bubbles. Just a good piece to look at. Scanned

Darkish piece with a red tinge to it. This piece is good sized
and contains 4
crane flies, Tuplidae. They are not in perfect shape, some
having a ring
of fungus around
them. But I must admit, I have never seen 4 crane flies together
in amber. Of course there are
gnats and a
fly or two.

Like number 62 above, this
is coprolite. Coprolites are really fossilized
poop. Believe it or not, they are rare and seldom found -
think about it, they can degrade so quickly, since this is material
that does not normally contain parts that leave imprints for fossilization.
This is probably snail
poop. The surface has a glazing, but the actual
coprolite is embedded deeper in the piece. This is a rare
specimen. There is a poor quality cricket on the other side.
