Description of the Specimen
$59
SOLD
#105 Irregular piece of amber with a very large fly, Lauxaniidae, lauxanid fly. One of the largest I've seen.
Scanned Image!
$99
SOLD
#106 Here is a moth, Lepidoptera. When the light was just right, the moth exhibited some unusual 'wavy' patterns on the wings and the body. There is also what appears to be a very small twig going through the other side of the amber. There is a male winged ant. Scanned Image!
$47
SOLD

#107 You are going to love this spider in the small piece of amber. She is very easily seen and is fairly thick for a spider.

Scanned Image!

$69
#108 Sterile, female worker ant, Hymenoptera, family Formicidae. Interesting piece with some lovely fungal decomposition. Actually there is a second ant also! Next to he ant is a small gnat, Diptera. Scanned Image!
$33
SOLD
#109 Rather large, 7.4 grams containing leafhopper and a humpbacked fly, Phoridae. This has 2 layers of what looks like small eggs (I do not think they are) strewn along a level plane.
Scanned Image!
$189
SOLD
#110 Here is something you do not see very often - a centipede, Chilopoda, Geophilomprpha. Just an unusual specimen in a very nice piece of amber.
Scanned Image!
$91
SOLD

#111 Fairly good sized piece of amber that contains one centrally (almost) located spider. There is also a gnat and what looks like a caddis fly but has planthopper characteristics. This is nice piece,
Scanned Image!

$89
SOLD
#112 Large cab shape piece of amber that contains a nice ensign wasp, Hymenoptera, Evaniidae. Interesting set of air bubbles on the other side.
Scanned Image!
$128
#113 Great piece. Shows layers and has two different colors. In this large piece of amber you will find a caddis fly, Triphoptera. This is a really fine piece of old (24 million years old) Dominican amber.
Scanned Image!
$99
SOLD

#114 Small cab shape but with a big beetle. This has a very nice leaf beetle, Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae. Actually, I consider this a rather dramatic piece of amber - look at the scanned image and you will see.
Scanned Image!

$52
SOLD
#115 Very clear piece of 25 million year old amber. This has a termite, Nasute Caste - protectors of the colony (they have pointed snouts.) This is a good piece.
Scanned Image!
$111
#116 This is a very interesting piece of Dominican amber. It contains a full size adult planthopper, Homoptera, super family Fulgoridea, a complete winged termite, Isoptera, 3 flies, Diptera and above the left wing of the planthopper is a mite (not shown in photographs)! There is a lot of organic debris (see scan) - which is very good and even a piece of unknown plant material.
Scanned Image!
$119
#117 What a piece of amber. Very large, 20.3 grams to be exact and about 1.5 x 1.5 x .75 inches. This has one of the finest dance flies I have ever seen, Diptera, Empididae, Rhamphomyia! Good enough to be a standard for this particular insect. This also has a good number of air bubbles inside bubbles. This is probably water that has been trapped for 25 million years - always wonder what would happen if the 25 million year old water was broken into and any prehistoric bacteria survived.............
Scanned Image!
$126
SOLD

#118 If you are looking for a nice piece of amber with an insect, but do not want it to break "the bank" - look no further. This has a nice shape (with a reddish tint) with a single winged termite , Hymenoptera, Isoptera. This contains the rarer and larger termite, Mastotermes electrodominicus. The amber has some stress planes in it, otherwise this would be so expensive, no one could afford it..

Scanned Image!

$69

#119. Large dome shape amber with an unknown beetle, Coleoptera, part of an eaten leaf and a small scaly barklouse, Psocoptera, Lepidopsocidae.
Scanned Image!

$134
#120 Ever wanted to give flowers? How about 24 million year old flowers? Here is a beautiful flower from a plant that died 24 million years ago.
Scanned Image!
$47
SOLD

#121 This contains (I think) part of a flower or leaf bud(just not sure). There is also a a large fly, another part of the terminal portion of a leaf and possibly a Bristletail, although the Bristletail is small.
Scanned Image!

$56

#122 Lovely piece of amber with 2 flies in it. There is also part of a leaf (looks like it was carried by a leaf cutter ant and dropped.) One fly has great detail - I think it is a fruit fly, Drosophilia.
Scanned Image!

$69
SOLD
#123 This is a pleaser. The surface has glazing, but does not detract from the spider, the mite and a ptiliid. The mite is really cool......
Scanned Image!
$197
#124 Not sure what this is - but it is really sharp. Maybe botanic in nature? I do not understand how this maintained its 3-D structure as the resin flowed over it. I would like it if someone know what this was and told me! Also has a nice ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae.
Scanned Image!
$144
#125 This is a large piece of amber with a large cricket in it. Very easy to see, even at a glance. Rather unusual because of the fine way it looks.
Scanned Image!
$49
SOLD
#126 Click beetle, Coleoptera, Elateridea going through a stress fracture in amber. The beetle is rather large and rather uncommon. Also has a complete wasp.
Scanned Image!
$9
SOLD
#127 Good clear piece of amber with a single platypodid beetle, Coleoptera, Platypodidae. The very top of the cephlothorax meets the top of the amber (sheered off).
Scanned Image!
$89
SOLD
#128 This is a neat piece. There are three winged ants, Hymenoptera, Formicidae and one large winged termite with the wings nicely spread. This is a perfect piece.
Scanned Image!
$42
SOLD
#129 Interesting piece that contains a lot of organic debris. There is a lot of stuff scattered all around, but of interest is a small mite (I do not think this is a tick) and part of a flower (the bract?). Just loads of fun to look through. By the way, this bit looks like a sporangium from a fungus (hard to see in picture).
Scanned Image!
$32
SOLD
#130 Small stem with a large female worker ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae (curled) next to it. Very nice detail on the ant - very clear piece of amber.
Scanned Image!
$42
SOLD
#131 A cab shaped piece of amber with a single, nice sized barklouse, Pscoptera. This is a real nice piece. It is a good teaching piece.
Scanned Image!
$53

#132 There is a cricket and a classic true midge, Diptera, Chironomid.
Scanned Image!

$14
SOLD
#133 This is a small piece of amber and I am not sure what is in it. I think it is an ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae or maybe a Hemiptera (true bug) - but I will go with the ant. The ant takes up most of the space.
Scanned Image!
$19
SOLD

#134 You know, I am just not sure on this one, I will call it a fungus gnat, but the abdomen is rather long for that - who knows? It is a nice little piece with a good potential.
Scanned Image!

$66
#135 4 pinhole borer beetles (Coleoptera, Family Platypodidae), a small wasp, and a shed of an immature planthopper, among lots of air bubbles, organic debris and other bits. Large piece of amber, almost 2 inches around! There is also a layer of what looks like black air bubbles(I doubt that they are air bubbles though!)
Scanned Image!
$58
#136 Half a tear drop shape to this clear yellow Dominican amber. There is part of a leaf, along with the head from an ant, a fungus gnat, Diptera, Myceptophilidae and some strange looking "hairs" which I cannot ID.
Scanned Image!
$66
#137 Very clear piece of yellow amber. It contains 3 animals that are 24 million years old. There is a small ant, female, Hymenoptera, Formicidae and a Scuttle fly, Diptera and finally a moth fly.
Scanned Image!
$42
#138 A nice leaf on one side and a female worker ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae on the other. Good piece.
Scanned Image!
$65
#139 Coleoptera, this is an unusual beetle. Called a leaf beetle, it is in the family Chrysomelidae. It is positioned in such a way that it is difficult to get a good picture of it.
Scanned Image!
$21

#140 Nice and large piece of amber with a small leaflet and what looks like an immature planthopper (rough shape), Homoptera, superfamily Fulgoroidea. Also has a fungus gnat, Diptera, Mycetophilidae.
Scanned Image!

$63
#141 Great piece with a small cricket, Orthoptera, Gryllidae off to one side. Largish piece and very clear.
Scanned Image!
$79

#142 Very nice shape to this piece of amber. It contains a single male, winged ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae. The ant's head and body are highlighted by a collar of fungus - which actually makes seeing it easier. Nice piece.

Scanned Image!

$58

#143 Nice sized piece of yellow amber (fat bottom) with a fungus gnat, Diptera, Mycetophilidae and some unique organic inclusions. One looks like part of a branching twig and the other, well I just do not know.

Scanned Image!

$41
SOLD

#144 This is a beautiful piece of amber, small, cab shape with a great barklouse in it, Psocoptera, Amphientomidae (?). Good for one's collection - just a lovely piece.
Scanned Image!

$154
#145. Nice shape to this amber. It rather triangular shaped and thin. This piece of amber though contains a very large mite, Opiliones, suborder Laniatores. The mite is almost 1/4 inch long - that is big.
Scanned Image!
$188
SOLD
#146. If the picture at the left doesn't catch your eye, nothing will. Here is a set of wings from a Damselfly, Odonata, Zygoptera. There are only 2 complete specimens of a Damselfly in the world! Of course, this is not a complete specimen (being just the wings.) I can easily ID these wings because of the pattern in the wings - it is very distinctive. This is an impressive piece. It also has a small immature planthopper, Homoptera, Fulgoroidea.
Scanned Image!
$79
#147. Two termites. These are the ones that are that at right angles to each other. There are some 25 million year old air bubbles, some organic matter and two black scavenger flies, Diptera, Scatopsida.
Scanned Image!
$68
SOLD

#148. "You want crickets - we've got crickets". Smallish piece with a nice cricket, Orthoptera, easily seen and easy on the pocket.
Scanned Image!

$122
SOLD
#149. What a great piece of Dominican amber. There are many tubes of what appears to be beetle waste - the tubes are large and long. And, wait a minute, there is also a long horned beetle, Coleoptera, Cerambycidaea. This guy only has one of the long antennae left. Very nice piece.
Scanned Image!
$38
SOLD
#150. You cannot help but love this piece. Very clear piece of amber with a single platypodid beetle, Coleoptera, Playtpodidae.
Scanned Image!
$60
SOLD
#151 A rather large piece of amber with 4 winged termites, Isoptera and a single spider, Araneida. Nice piece.
Scanned Image!
$172
#152. This is really easy to see - a flower bud. It is very unusual to find one, much less to find one this large. This is quite a piece! There is also a small ant and planthopper.
Scanned Image!
$278
#153. Probably one of the finest planthopper nymphs I have ever seen, Homoptera, Fulgoridea. The nymph is text book and the amber is perfectly clear with a wonderful yellow. This is a superb piece of Dominican amber. You will enjoy the detail of this animal.
Scanned Image!
$146
SOLD
#154 If you like flowers - you will love this piece. This is a good sized piece of amber with two very busy flowers. This is a really nice piece.
Scanned Image!
$289
SOLD
#155 This is a very impressive piece. It has just about anything you could want - the whole zoo. There is a nice cricket, in fact there are 2 crickets, an unusual roach egg case, ants, and a parasitic wasp. The piece is large - nice cap stone for a collection. There is also some good organic material here.
Scanned Image!
$176
#156 First, this is a good sized piece and very clear. There is a lot of organic debris throughout the piece. This really adds class because there is a lot here - almost a zoo. There is a Lauxaniid fly, a large number of mites, possible beetle mites, an ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae, some type of larvae, a fungus gnat, Diptera, Mycetophilidae, an adult planthopper, Homoptera, Fulgoroidea, an unknown fly, part of a leaf, and who knows what else.
Scanned Image!
$229
#157 First off, let me admit that I am not sure what this is. I have many guesses, an aquatic lacewing, Planipennia is my best guess, but I freely admit there is 60% chance that I am wrong. This is an amazining pie of amber, nearly 2 inches in length and very clear. The wing venation is wonderful on this 24 million year old animal.
Scanned Image!
$73
SOLD
#158 Large piece, with a lot in it. Small leaf, with some good detail. a fungus gnat, Diptera, Mycetophilidae and a central weevil, Coleoptera, superfamily Curculionoidea.
Scanned Image!
$69
#159 Not sure what one animal is. Unusual animal - globular with strange head antennae. Nice piece of clear amber. Next to it is a sterile female worker ant Hymenoptera, Formicidae.
Scanned Image!
$154
#160 A big piece of amber with a lot in it. To give you an idea of the size, it weighs 41.2 grams. A set of termite wings, a termite, gnats, ants, a beetle larvae (rear chopped off) small fly - well just about everything. But the crowning glory is what looks like a seed from a grass. You can see the barbed head - it looks like the ones that used to get on my socks when I was a kid. Very nice piece. This even has some other unknowns.
Scanned Image!
$49
SOLD

#161 I am not exactly su re on this one, but it certainly looks like a small Isopod. You take a look and tell me! It certainly is a lovely piece of clear yellow Dominican amber.
Scanned Image!

$39
SOLD
#162 A beautiful piece of very clear amber with a single solitary winged ant. This is a male ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae. Very good piece, very good price.
Scanned Image!
$82
#163 This is a good piece. Not only is it good sized, but the amber is a very clear yellow and has some of the best looking organic debris in it that I have seen. There are a number of plant parts that look to me like petioles - but I am not sure. Also has an ant, Hymenoptera, Formicidae.
