Dominican Amber In-Situ
For some reason, this is VERY hard to get ahold of......
Here are 3 pieces of amber from the La Toca mines which is located just north east of Santiago. Each piece has a number of in-situ amber specimens. The rock is heavy. I consider this perfect material to show individuals how the amber looks as it is mined. All amber pieces in the rock are reasonably easy to see. In fact you can see most of them from the pictures.
I doubt that you can find amber in-situ for sale anywhere else.
Specimen 1
This first piece is rather large about 8.5 inches x 4 inches x 1.5 inches. the weight is just over 3 pounds - now that is 3 pounds of rock, not amber, although there is a fair bit of amber in this piece. It is particularly nice.

Almost 1.5 pounds of rock. This irregular shaped piece is about 5 inches x 3 inches x 2.5 inches, Rather dome shaped with the amber at the base of the dome.
Specimen 3
This last piece is also about 1.5 pounds and is about 5 inches x 5 inches x 1 inch in size. Not as many isolated amber chunks as the other two, but still eye catching.
