Nice sized piece of Dominican amber with a hister beetle and two
female worker ants.

#11 He is what you have been waiting for - a lightning
bug, Family Lampyridae.
Yes these are the ones which emit
pulses of "cold" light as a courting
signal or as a warning to enemies. Very
uncommon to find them in amber. This is a nice one, showing
patterns on the back. The lightning bug is pretty good sized
also.

#12.
This is a beautiful ground beetle, Carabidae, probable genus Platynus.
These are not good fliers, but are good runners. The y have a
long thorax with elytras which are often brilliantly colored.

#13 Not exactly sure what beetle this is. It is small, the amber
is good, maybe a ladybird beetle or a tortoise beetle?

#14. Interesting piece - it has a nice click beetle, Elateridae
but also a spider
with VERY
long legs, maybe a Huntsman,
but I do not know my spiders that well. This is a good piece.

#15.
A nice click
beetle, Coleoptera, Elateridae.
The click beetle is off to the side, but VERY visible. Called
a click
beetle because when it finds itself upside down, it propels
itself into the air with an audible click. There is also a fruit
fly in this amber.

#16.
A beetle
larvae, 1 Phorid and a gall

bits of glazing and it has numerous small air bubbles which interfere
with observation of the animals.

another gnat.

A great animal here - it is a net-winged beetle, Lycidae. The
beetle is large with great features. The surface of the amber
has glazing, but this does not detract from the beauty of this
beetle. This is a very special piece.
