Description of the Specimen
|
|
|
1.
Part of a leaf with 3
leaflets. Very unique, seldom see and I cannot
ID the tree or shrub that these
leaves came from. Also has a midge
in it. Impressive piece. You won't see this very often.

2.
This is a very unusual piece
of amber. The amber is very clear and has a lovely yellow
color. I cannot imagine how vegetable
(?) fibers could have dropped or have been engulfed in resin
and still maintain their spatial
separation. That is, they are not all on one plane, but are
very 3-dimensional. Pictures will not show this well, but there
is great depth to this tangled 'mess'.

Wow, this is a big leaf. the amber is large and only holds the top portion of the leaf. Very impressive though and if you are into botanicals like, you will love this one. Even has a wasp - the scanned image shows this beauty best.

Two leaves and at least a half dozen ambrosia beetle, Coleoptera, Platypodidae. Lots of organic debris to make this interesting. You will spend some time investigating what is here.

6.
Good piece with what looks like a casing
from a flower or something
similar. Also contains
an ant, the head
of an ant and a gall midge,
Diptera Cecidomyiidae.

7.
The is possibly a curled up stem
of leaf. It does appear the the leaf
is hairy!! Got me. Also with this beauty
is a weevil, Family Histeridae, Super family Curculionoidea. Weevils
are very unusual, so with this specimen you get a '2-fer'.

What a piece of amber. This contains part of a legume leaf. You can see the individual leaflets on this beauty. You do not see botanicals like this very often. The piece is not large, but it is VERY impressive.

Just a great piece. This is a lovely cab shape, clear and perfect
for making into a pendant. There is a nice
leaf and two
stems that look like they are petiole to leaves. This is a
good piece. This has an unknown
fly, a
gnat and also what looks like a moth
fly.

Perfectly clear amber - just a beautiful yellow color to it
without anything else - except - a leaf. This is
really a good piece. Take a
look at the scanned image and you will see what I am talking
about.

12. This is going to be hard to believe, but there are about
14 flowers in this piece
of amber. It looks a someone just cut off the flowers
and dropped them in the resin.
It is very unusual to
find this many together, one or two is good, more than 10, wow.
There is even a beetle(Coleoptera)
larvae in here.

Leaves! There are 3 wonderful
leaves in the large piece of amber. I would guess that they
are Leguminoseae leaves. Here is the back
side of the amber. One of the leaves is curled over, that
is why it looks like 4 leaves. This specimen should be in a
museum. It is a fine piece of very clear and yellow amber. In
fact, I do not think I have ever seen better. I wonder if there
is still DNA inside the leaves?

This has a great
leaf in it. Almost a pyramid
shape (rather a freeform pyramid), the
leaf in this specimen is very nice. There
is a fungus gnat, Diptera, Mycetophilidae off to the side. Impressive
leaf.

18. Lots of stamens and anthers scattered here. There is also
a petiole, a possible sepal, the shed
of a spider (cool), a fly and even an isopod.
This is like the one above, always something new when you look
at it. There is even a possible Hemipteran
- although I cannot see it well enough for any
type of ID. Also included for your viewing pleasure is a
spider with very
long legs.

Here is a special one. Not the 'hottest shape' or the 'clearest
piece' but when you look at it - OH. There is a very nice stamen
with the stalk and a lot of organic debris. But here is what is
going to get you, there is also another stamen with a lot of the
pollen on the top of the stamen, easily seen! Really nice.

The scanned image and the pictures do not do this one justice.
The leaf is an inch long (can't see it in the scan because of
reflection). There is also a petiole near an edge, an ant, Hymenoptera,
Formicidae and a gnat,
