3-6-9x Achromatic Triplet ... Folding Pocket Loupe

This large diameter (22mm) double folding loupe is the most versatile portable magnifier for a wide range of hobby and professional uses. Use the individual 3x or 6x lenses for larger subjects, or combine the lenses for 9x magnification. It's an ideal choice for stamp and coin collectors, archivists, antique hunters, and field biologists.

Each lens is specified as "aplanatic" (corrected for spherical aberrations which interfere with sharp focusing) and "achromatic" (corrected for chromatic dispersion, which causes colors to separate and show up as "halos" around bright details).

The loupe comes standard with Zeiss' T* Multi-Layer Anti-Reflective coating, which both minimizes distracting environmental glare and enhances the clarity of the image seen through the lens. The tough, reinforced polymer shell is much lighter than a metal frame, but provides better shock protection for the lenses in the event the loupe is dropped.

Technical Specifications:

One lens has a refractive power of 12 diopters (i.e. its focal length is 1/12 meter).
One lens has a refractive power of 24 diopters (i.e. its focal length is 1/24 meter).
The nominal magnification is 3x for the 12 diopter lens and 6x for the 24 diopter lens, or 9x when used in combination (by convention, this value is defined as the refractive power divided by 4 - for a loupe, this is attained in normal use with the magnifier held close to eye).
The lens design is optimized for use at the following working distances:

3x : eye-to-loupe distance 10 mm loupe-to-subject distance 80 mm
6x : eye-to-loupe distance 10 mm loupe-to-subject distance 35 mm
9x : eye-to-loupe distance 10 mm loupe-to-subject distance 25 mm

The effective field of view when used at these distances is 127 mm diameter for the 3x lens, 52 mm diameter for the 6x lens and 32 mm diameter for the combination.
