Chiapas Scorpions
These 3 amber pieces are from Mexico, Chiapas amber, Simojovel mines.
There are only a handful of amber scorpions in the world today. Before mating, the male and female engage their pincers and move back and forth as if dancing. When the male drops its sperm capsule, the female picks it up and keeps it for fertilization. The juvenile specimens are often carried on the back of the mothers until they become mature.
Most often, the creatures trapped in the resin are tiny bugs or floral fragments, but example such as these are considerably rarer.
There are a total of 3 (yes, three) scorpions for sale here.
They are varied in size and in quality.

1. Starting with the very finest quality, the amber is about 1.5 inches long and the scorpion, if stretched out would be almost .5 inches in size. The tail is curved so, the actual size is about .3 inches. Very clear and without a doubt, a fine specimen. The pictures will tell the whole story on this one. This is possibly one of the finest specimens I have ever seen.
2. The second specimen: Most often, the creatures trapped in the resin are tiny bugs or floral fragments, but an example such as this is considerably rarer. Suspended in the side of this clear, beautifully shaped amber nugget is a scorpion, every detail of its arthropod anatomy is visible, its tail extended with the vicious barb curved around, its tiny jointed legs bent in towards its body, and one of its larger claw legs extended to the side as though in a final despairing gesture as the sticky tree sap covered its helpless

body. I can only see one pincer, my guess is that the other one is not there. This scorpion is near the edge with one pincer easily seen and the curled stinger near the body. It's body is small, maybe a bit over 1/4 of an inch is length.
3. The third scorpion is in a large chunk of amber. About 2.5 x 2 x .5 inches in size, this amber contains a poorly saved scorpion and a lot of other animals such as tropical stingless bees, gnats and
more. This even has 2 parts of a leaf in it. It is an impressive piece of amber even though the scorpion does not jump out at you.
All three scorpions are collectively $6,500. In our opinion, number 1 scorpion should sell for that (alone) - much less all 3! See the bottom for the link to purchase this collection.
